A&A Produce: Nourishing the Lowcountry

Founded in 2002, A&A Produce began when the Kemp family bought a small family-owned produce company that had been successfully servicing Myrtle Beach for over 10 years. Starting with six employees, the growing business now employs a staff of over 25 people and has expanded into the Charleston market. Entering its third year in the Lowcountry, A&A Produce is now solely run by Andy Kemp and his wife, Emily, becoming one of the largest, full-service wholesale food distributors in the Horry County and tri-county areas.

Sales Manager Heather Broadhurst said the company proudly offers a full line of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and dairy products.

“Our main product is produce, but we also sell everything from cleaning supplies to paper products,” she said.

With continued success in Myrtle Beach, Broadhurst said the decision to expand into Charleston has been a good one. Since the beginning, customer service has been the cornerstone of the business. Finding the freshest produce and products at the best price, A&A Produce has developed close working relationships with the most reputable growers in the industry, ranging from wholesale commodity growers, organic growers and local family farmers. With a growing customer base, the company sells to numerous establishments, including restaurants, hotels, caterers and even food trucks.

Committed to operating with the highest ethical standards and management practices, A&A Produce is HACCP and SQF certified. The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point and Safe Quality Food certification systems are rigorous food-management programs.

Broadhurst said the company also works hard to develop and maintain its high quality of customer relationships.

“We are very hands-on when it comes to customer service,” she added. “I see our customers every week and work hard to find products they need.”

With a dedicated team of employees, many of whom have been with the company since the beginning, A&A Produce continues to strive for ways to improve its service and meet the unique needs of each customer.
