Lunch with Chef Laurie

There’s nothing like a mid-week break with delicious cuisine to make you appreciate your life. Such was the case when we visited the home of Chef Laurie, who prepared one of her fabulous multi-course meals for us to savor. Chef Laurie, a Lowcountry based private chef who has cooked for the likes of Dan Marino, George W. Bush and others, exceeded our expectations with local ingredients, gorgeous presentation and impeccable service.

The menu for the day was refreshingly lightweight for a noon meal: Two delicious starter courses – mushroom ravioli and Thai cashew shrimp – a butternut squash soup with Jamaican curry powder, whole roasted local snapper and Limoncello tiramisu to finish it off. Each course, paired up with the perfect white wine, was flavorful and effortlessly described by Chef Laurie herself; she clearly puts a great deal of inspiration into her cuisine. As dinner table conversations go, this one was filled with good humor, discussions about the locavore movement in Charleston and how we would manage to go back to the office after such luxury. We departed the lunch knowing we would certainly call on Chef Laurie the next time a party needed to be planned – or perhaps before then.
