Essentially a gin sour made vibrant with a shot of blackberry liqueur, the Bramble is an easy, classic cocktail. Fresh, herbaceous and fruity, the Bramble is a favorite of Handcraft Kitchen & Cocktails’ Beverage Director Tyler Rothenberg for its ease. “Dick Bradsell hit the mark when he invented this cocktail in the early 1980s. It’s easy to make and remarkably well-balanced — equally sweet, sour and fruity,” Rothenberg said. “It’s also hard to mess up and open for interpretation. Accidentally add too much creme du mere or not enough lemon? No problem. Like vodka instead of gin? Totally OK!” HANDCRAFT’S BRAMBLE COCKTAIL • 2 ounces gin • 1 ounce fresh lemon juice • ½ ounce simple syrup • ½ ounce creme du mure Add gin, lemon juice and simple syrup in a shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a rocks glass with crushed ice. Lace creme du mure over the top. Garnish with blackberry and blueberry spear.
