Lowcountry Cuisine July 2018

www.LowcountryCuisineMag.com | www.MountPleasantRestaurant.com | www.CharlestonRecipes.com LC 5 T here’s something about the hot sun and longer days that makes this time of year the perfect excuse for eating al fresco and celebrating late into the night with friends. To me, the summertime screams barbecues, picnics and last-minute beach parties with the freshest fruits and vegetables and the coldest adult beverages! In this issue, we take you through some of the highlights here in the Lowcountry, stopping to talk about mushroom hunting, hot-spot brunch options and, of course, taking you along a trail of barbecue joints to check out – some you likely have never heard of until now. You can also snag some of our favorite blueberry and honey recipes to use all summer long, so don’t forget to stock up when you hit the farmers markets because we have a recipe for any time of day. Looking to find something for the whole family? Get in the kitchen with your kids as they try their hands at cooking with our mini- fan favorite personal pizza recipe on page 6. If you have family and friends visiting during summer break, try out one of our favorite places to get your brunch on to round out their trip, because what is a tour of Charleston without a great brunch, right? And finally, what would a summer issue be without taking you to some of the “coolest” spots around town to grab a tasty – and COLD – treat to beat the heat? It’s official, folks: School’s out and fun is in, so we want to wish your family the best summer possible. Take full advantage of the time together, get outdoors and experience new places in your own backyard. On a personal note, this will be our last summer as a family of three, while we await the arrival of baby brother coming this August. While we’re over the moon to complete our family, we’re also taking this time to soak up every last minute with our daughter. This means road trips, one- day adventures and, of course, a summertime bucket list that includes some of our favorite places to fill our (growing) bellies – with many we’ve still yet to try! I welcome and encourage everyone to find the balance that makes sense for your own families during this time and enjoy the ever-so-fleeting moments while you can! Don’t forget to continue to catch us on social media for new recipes, links to events around town and snapshots of how our LC Mag team is savoring every flavor in town all summer long. As always, I hope your journeys are plentiful and delivered to you plate by delicious plate along the way!
