This is my favorite issue of the year because it gives me the excuse to call on so many restaurants and share the good news that they’ve scored high in the hearts of their Lowcountry patrons. This year, we had an interesting assortment of winners, from cafes to hot dog stands to gelato shops. It’s clear to me that when people think of their favorite food-related establishments in the tri-county, they don’t limit them to places where you can get a four-course meal. Anywhere our taste buds are tantalized is up for discussion, and this year’s Golden List proves just that. The cover of this issue was shot on location at High Thyme on Sullivan’s Island by Cassandra Richerson, owner of Cassandra Michelle Photography. We met at the restaurant on a weekday, happy to note the right amount of light streaming onto the porch. High Thyme, a mainstay of the Sullivan’s scene, is just one of our top scoring restaurants featured in this issue; you’ll find many more in the following pages. My congratulations goes out to all of them. After the reader-voted restaurants, you’ll find my eight editor’s picks for this year. Now, let’s get something straight: There are far more restaurants in this area, new and established, that are deserving of my love and praise. But these eight were at the tip of my mind when I put this issue together, and these eight are spots that might not be on your radar but should be. And yes, I admit that I don’t cook as often as I should. I’m a single gal who likes to socialize. In addition to the Golden Spoon winners, we have a few articles about restaurants that are going through noteworthy changes, such as SOL Southwest Kitchen & Tequila Bar expanding to Summerville and The Americano adding new menu items. It’s a good time to be a restaurant in Charleston – and it’s an even better time to be a foodie. From all of us at In Good Taste , we hope you enjoy the issue. Yours, Denise K.
