It’s pretty easy for us here at Lowcountry Cuisine to sit back and name some of our favorite stops around town. After all, it’s our job, to an extent, to stop in for delicious meals throughout Charleston so we can continue to bring you all of the exciting events, delicious plates and unbeatable cocktails you need to try. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it. Right?
Still, as much as we love digging into the daily specials ourselves, it’s the time of year when we ask YOU, our readers, for your top-pick venues – and, just like in previous years, you did not disappoint. Judged on Best Cuisine; Beer/Wine/ Cocktail Selection; Service; Ambience; and Overall Experience, each of the following 13 locations were handpicked and voted for by our readers – and the comments come straight from their own mouths! Congratulations to all of the Golden Spoon winners for 2018. While some are quickly becoming local legends, others are slowly but surely making a name for themselves. It all goes back to the dining experiences we, as patrons, walk away with!
Enjoy!

Grace & Grit
“Grace & Grit is a game-changer. They have elevated brunch favorites and created a reasonably priced menu with the palate of a fine-dining restaurant. Just when you thought grits couldn’t be anything beyond milk, water and cheese, Grace & Grit proves us all wrong. And just like they don’t serve average savory and sweet grits, they wouldn’t dare serve average bacon. Their thick-sliced bacon will make you a die-hard fan of this outstanding establishment!”
Napa
“They have wine on tap. That is so amazing! They keep the menu fresh and change it seasonally. The staff is so hospitable, and I have such a great experience every time!”
Bistro Toulouse
“Bistro Toulouse has the cuisine, ambience and service of a first-class small Parisian bistro. On every visit, my family, friends and I have anticipated and enjoyed the excellent cuisine and wines. The never-failing warm welcome and friendly service has always made us feel “at home” in this cozy spot. Bravo! Cinq Etoiles!”
Smok’n Meats
“Excellent meal made from scratch. Meats were out-of-bounds delicious. Customer service was second to none, and their sauces were amazing. Will continue to look forward to the next meal.”
SOL
“The service and atmosphere is perfect. I love stopping here for a margarita with my girlfriend after the beach or in for dinner any day of the week.”
Acme Lowcountry Kitchen
“This is probably my favorite restaurant. The food is always wonderful, using local seafood. The staff at this restaurant are the best people I have ever encountered, and their kindness to my late mother when she visited me is something I will always remember. From the time she arrived, we had to go after Mass to their brunch on the deck they had enclosed. When you have the best local food prepared to enhance the ingredients and a staff that makes you feel so welcomed, you have to give thanks it exists on our island!!”
Page’s Okra Grill
“Page’s Okra Grill is an iconic restaurant in Mount Pleasant. It has been around forever. They continue to improve every time I take my family there. The food quality, cocktails, service, atmosphere – this is what all restaurants should strive for.”
Grimaldi’s
“I eat lunch there several times a week because it is consistently good food, awesome service and great ambience. The location is fantastic, too!”
Sticky Fingers
“Great food for a great price. They accommodated my daughter’s food allergies, which is amazing. And I love that they support the community.”
Shem Creek Bar & Grill
“We try to visit once a year as our special place to go to eat seafood. We love the ambience and the food, and it’s nice to look out at the water while we eat.”
High Thyme Cuisine
“High Thyme is awesome. The food is on point – clever and delicious. The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable. It is a small, cozy restaurant with a regular following.”
Hank’s
A Charleston institution that always delivers with quality seafood and incredible service!”
Sullivan’s
“My wife and I eat out regularly since our children are all grown and gone. We consistently find ourselves returning to the little restaurant down the road from our house because of the quality and value of the food. The management and staff at Sullivan’s are extremely friendly and well-trained, drifting between tables to check on customers without being intrusive. I will continue to patronize Sullivan’s year-round.”
